Orange Ginger Turmeric Sunrise Sipper

This week is almost over, and for once I am not looking forward to it. AJ is leaving us for two weeks for some work training in Texas. That’s right, it will be me, solo with the baby, for two weeks. So many people always tell me how they just need a few days away from their significant other, or how they can’t wait to “get away”. I never really feel like that. AJ is one of my favorite people, and hands down my best friend, so being away from him isn’t really on my mind. Instead, I’d like to go away with him! He’ll be leaving a couple days early to make stops in cool little towns along the way and to get some good hiking in. You could say I am a bit jealous. I think the last time we went on vacation together was Europe. Is that possible? That was years ago…

Anyway, I am getting on the Thirsty Thursday bandwagon! I hope to be sharing more drink recipes in the future, and my goal is to do at least one every other week. I plan to post recipes that can be made alcoholic or nonalcoholic, as I know quite a few people staying away from alcohol and still more that are in dire need of a drink by week’s end. I won’t say which category I fall into. I think it changes on a weekly basis.

Regardless, this Orange Ginger Turmeric Sunrise drink is delicious without a drop of alcohol. It’s perfect as a mid-day refreshing thirst-quencher, an early morning energizer, or a late night mixed drink. That’s why I couldn’t decide if I should name it something related to a sunrise or sunset.

Im usually not much of a juice gal, but I am definitely going to be making this Orange Ginger Turmeric deliciousnessall the time once summer hits! After you try it once, I think you will too.

Course: Breakfast, Drinks
Cuisine: Every Cuisine
Servings: 2
Calories: 270 kcal
  • 3 C of pure orange juice
  • 1 lemon squeezed & juiced (make sure to remove the seeds)
  • 2 Tbsp ginger freshly grated
  • 1 Tbsp turmeric
  • 2 Tbsp honey
  • 2 cooked beets
  • 2-4 Tbsp water
  • Ice
  • Alcohol of choice (I recommend vodka or champagne) optional
  1. In a blender, add the orange juice, lemon juice, grated ginger, turmeric, and honey. Blend on high for 1 minutes. (**see comment below)
  2. Fill 2 glasses with ice.
  3. If you are wanting to add some alcohol, add your preferred amount now.
  4. Holding a strainer above one of the glasses, pour the mixture into the glass so that the extra chunks of ginger get filtered out, leaving about 1/2-1 inch of room from the top. Repeat with the other glass.
  5. Throw the beets into the blender with the water. Start with 2 Tbsp and blend. If it is still too thick to pour, continue adding water until it is a pourable puree.
  6. Top each glass with the beet juice.

** I let my drink sit in the blender in the fridge for an hour until ready to use so that the flavors continued to set.
